Clovelly mini break

We came back from a fabulous little mini-break yesterday. We were so lucky with the accommodation, location and weather.  I feel very relaxed and rested.

It was a 4 day break so we decided to stop on the way down at Westward Ho, the weather was amazing, we had a walk and stopped for lunch before heading on.

I'd forgotten how big the beach was at Westward Ho.

After our break we got back in the car and headed off to  The Red Lion in Clovelly

The hotel is the white building on the harbour wall.
Our room was amazing and what a view

Clovelly Village is very steep but well worth the walk

If you are visiting there is a charge to enter the village and it is very steep and cobbled and only suited to feet not wheels of any kind! the people that live there use sledges to bring things up and down, and that includes the ambulance crew!

We visited the cottage gardens which were just along from the top of the village

and headed out to Hartland point

more steep walking!
Then onto Hartland Abbey.

Another place well worth the visit if you are in that area.

Then it was time to go, leaving our new neighbours

the wonderful evenings

and our morning view.

It really was a lovely break.

Now its back to the 9-5 and normality for a few weeks at home.

  1. What a wonderful view from your lodgings. We've often said we'd visit Clovelly when we've been staying in Cornwall, it's not that far from where we stay near Bude, but we still haven't been. We have been to Westward Ho! and Hartland Quay though, numerous times. It's such a lovely area on the north coast of Cornwall and Devon.

  4. Gorgeous photos again, every one a gem! I visited Clovelly a hundred years ago, totally unprepared for the steep, cobbled street leading down to the beach. I was wearing new white sandals with 2" heels - OMG my poor feet were bleeding by the time I reached the bottom of thw hill. I had no idea that there was a jeep to transport us back to the car park at the top, so painfully climbed all the way back up. *sob, sob, sob*

  6. Oh wow, that looks fabulous. I have always fancied Clovelly and Westward Ho! but they are a very long way away.

BTW, apparently you can quite legally enter Clovelly without paying if you are walking and on the South West Coast Path, which is a public footpath that the owners of the estate were not able to get re-routed out of their village.

  8. Hello and thank you for visiting my blog. Gorgeous images! This brings back some wonderful memories as the last time I went to Clovelly was on a school trip! Many light years ago and we certainly were not charged to go into the village. It was and is a wonderful place and I would dearly love a cottage there although nowadays the steep climb would not be suitable . What a great place to have a break. keep well Amanda :-)
