New Cast on.

Instagram did it again, led me into temptation.
Another cast on, despite still having numerous other projects on the go.
This one just had to be done though. It is exactly what I have been wanting, but didn't know it.

Pictures from Kate Davies designs

How fabulous is that? Now you can see why it just had to be cast on straight away, and what a knit whilst the beast from the east heads towards us [ very cold weather, may be snow] The pattern currently costs £5.95 but I can already see me making more.

Trying not to buy yarn, despite really wanting to get the exact same colourway as the pattern picture I stash dived. This is what I came up with

recycling the back of a cardigan I previously cast on but was not loving. It was a DK weight so I have doubled it up with another ball to give the worsted weight required. I even swatched it !!
Carbeth is at the front on the needles, not even ripping the back leaving as is and knitting as if it were a sock blank..

This is the yarn with the beginning of the old cardi.
Its a cheap as chips yarn, bought because I love the colours, [am not a yarn snob], worked doubled up its looking fab, it's going to be machine washable as well which is great.

I have a feeling that this will fly off the needles and get a lot of use. My only issue now is choosing buttons, I have a huge stash of those too, so in theory should not have to buy any.

Cornwall, lethargy and getting back on track.

Had a fabulous break in Cornwall, even the sun shone.

It was really good to get away, and despite it being half term the traffic was great, no traffic jams either way which is a first for a very long time.

Back home Sunday evening and straight back to work on the Monday, to say I struggled was an understatement. I have felt really rubbish all week, no energy, no inclination to do anything, not even knit. I was getting headaches and aches, really thought I was going to come down with something. Luckily I didn't.

This weekend is the first time in over a week I have had any energy, I caught a spring cleaning bug yesterday and even managed to pass it onto the boys , who cleaned their own rooms and then helped me !! Shopping local took on a different angle yesterday. LIDL have opened a new massive store about 5 minutes drive from our house, so I decided to pop in there.  Have to say I really liked it, well laid out and spacious and despite the numbers the tills were working quickly and they had a good number of self serve tills which was a great idea. I have a sneaky suspicion this may well become my local alongside the shops in our village.

Today is another great sun shining type of day, bitterly cold, [we have snow forecast for Tuesday !] , but lovely. I have spent an hour in my little pink den faffing about with my journals etc, trying to be quiet as the boys are still sleeping,[hubs is working.] all I need to do today is the ironing and the day is mine, except drop no 1 son to work shortly, [must go wake him soon]. I have plans to knit, I have cast on a new project, it had to be done, all it took was a picture on Instagram.. , and generally relax.

WIP wednesday

Scrappy yarn blanket progress. I am so resisting the temptation to unpick the squares where the lines are out ! But it is a scrappy blanket and it needs to be scrappy not perfect..
I am loving this project and it continues to take my whole attention.

However I did manage to get to cast off point on a little beanie for the coming weekend in Cornwall [ anticipating cold blowy weather].

The decision now is whether to add a Pom Pom ?
I am thinking not.

Same old story.

WOW, it must be true, as you get older time really does fly by.

I really don't know where time is going these days. I am so looking forward to longer days.I am done with dark mornings and evenings. Id also like to see some blue skies and sunshine.

Life has been the usual round of work and home-life. The only thing that's different is that its my Birthday Month.Celebrations started at the beginning of the month with a meal out with friends, then hubs surprised me last weekend with this

Oh my, it was fab. Loved every minute of it. Sneaky chap that he is arranged to accidentally bump into some other Friends for another meal out.Sadly hes working all this weekend, which is my birthday weekend, he doesn't get as much leave as me so it just felt silly to take a days leave just because its my birthday, I've had loads, its ok.  Next weekend I will be setting off to Cornwall, there's a surprise ! So this weekend is a quiet one with the boys.

Speaking of which no 1 son went out ' down town' clubbing with his work mates last night and still hasn't arrived home. Its the first time he hasn't come home and I am not sure when you need to start worrying, well seriously worrying, [I am already worrying]. Hes almost 20, I know, chill out.

Craftwise, not much occurring, despite only have a 1 inch rib section left to finish my Lundy sweater I have become addicted to this

a sock yarn scrappy blanket. Takes me about an hour to knit 1 square, am using my advent calendar mini's and odd scrappy bits of sock yarn. I love it. So much so haven't even picked up anything else. This is probably going to take until next winter to finish !

On the green front, hubs did the food shop last week, sticking to our reduce waste and shop local guidelines. I have to say its working, our recycle bins and bag were much reduced on collection day this week. This weekend I do not need to get much shopping as we still have loads left! The only thing we need to change is to stop eating meat daily, we did go a bit overboard using the butchers! Financially I don't think we are saving money, but that wasn't our goal, it would be nice, but I think we have a way to go on that front and with 3 males in my house food does seem to disappear at a rate of nots !

I'm signing off now as am distracted by my lack of no 1 son...

Cruising the Norwegian Fjords.

To celebrate reaching 60 I decided to tick off one of the bucket list holidays. I am very grateful I have a good job which pays well enough ...
