Back to routine and reading.

Back to work today and I sadly enjoyed getting back into a routine.

This job is so much calmer, first day back after leave and I wasn't swamped or stressed, even though I had a very full inbox. It was exceptionally quiet in the office for a Monday, which was actually really nice, I could just get on with it in my own time.

Back to work means back to commuting, which means reading time ! no 1 son bought me a waterstones voucher for mothers day and during my weeks break I popped into spend it.

I love books ! Especially books with great covers, they just draw me in.

Over the weekend I started Alice

wow, I loved this book so much. Its quite a dark interpretation of the story, quite violent and graphic in places but it got me hooked. It is quite a twisted portrayal of Alice and other characters such as the rabbit and the caterpillar. I couldn't wait for book 2 so I went straight on to Amazon and bought the 2nd part

Which I am just about to start !

Be warned with Alice there were references to sexual assaults and abuse of females which could be graphic, dont read it if you are squeamish. I wont say too much as dont want to give the story away, but its part of the dark place that Alice finds herself in.

I am really pleased that I challenged myself to read different genres this year. I  can see my taste changing and surprised my self by my choice of books. That's one of the things I like about waterstones, there's always at least one staff member who has read  one of the new releases. I know its all part of the sell but I like being told about books I might not otherwise read. Its certainly getting me to try new things. Circe is next up after I have read the red queen. Greek mythology? whatever next !

Weekending.

Thought it about time to get back into weekending.
I'm pretty much settled in to the new job so new routines are getting established. I am feeling less stressed and drained and actually finding energy from somewhere. I now need to start getting my weekends back for fun things, not using household chores.

Friday night was straight out from work to meet friends ' in Town'. We ate early then went to a magic and comedy show . It was set in a pub where they had sectioned off the back section, it almost felt like you were sat in someones lounge. Small and cosy. It was great fun though. Despite leaving town relatively early we went back to theirs and I didn't end up getting home until 2am ! what ? me? my boys were shocked. I am very much a home bod, but one of my goals this year was to say yes more.

Despite the late night I was up and about early as always. I do like that time of day when everyone else still sleeps. Its so peaceful. I generally read or knit. Yesterday the sun was shining it promised to be a lovely day.

For some strange reason I got a gardening urge.very unlike me. Hubs mowed, junior dug the veg plot and I trimmed / pruned my Hydrangea Bush and olive tree. During which I managed to get a lineful of laundry out and then decided on cleaning windows! what ever next.

Hubs and the boys were out last night, rugby & curry night, so I was home alone. Thought it about time to put some thought to our Orlando Holiday and try and get a loose plan of what parks to go to and when. Were heading out in July so its going to be busy and very hot. Also realised I am going to need some cool clothing and a comfy pair of sandals. Ended the evening reading my book with a glass of vino. Bliss.

This morning, up and about at 6am. Read for a bit then decided to go cut out the fabric. Its been looking at me for weeks..

First time using a rotary cutter, no idea why I never thought to buy one sooner, so blooming easy to use and quick. Do you like my weights? big fat washers. did the trick though. Hoping I can get this done through the week.

Then it was ironing Sunday, I like ironing so its not much of a chore, pop some you tube videos on and away I go. Quite relaxing. After ironing I decided it was time to sort out my blog. I have had a few blogs and wanted to close down the old ones. I worked out how to import the posts so now the posts are all transferred to this one from 2014 ! Now I have the huge task of going through them all, deleting the really rubbish ones , there are quite a few, then sorting out the label thing.  I have had great fun looking back at them , there is most definitely themes to my life. Most of all I loved the pictures, back when they were young they didn't mind me putting pictures up. I saved them to my PC so am going to get some printed. Here's one of my favourites, just look at that bed hair.

How they have grown.

Now I am off to cook dinner and spend some time with the family, were all in this evening.
Hope you are all having a great weekend however you choose to spend it.

work V fluff!

This week has been all about spinning and work.

I really dont like having to work 5 days a week, there is just not enough time to do other stuff ! However its going well and I am more settled and finding that I am starting to do some actual work , work that I more or less know what I am meant to be doing.  There's not a lot else to report, I really do have a quiet simple life. My only challenge this week was to try to spin for at least 15 minutes per day and its worked. My previous post saw the glorious winter Jasmine all spun up and now I am onto this beauty

Another spin Jones batt, this is Bayou and its spinning up a treat

Its spinning up quite fine which I am really happy about. Id like to get enough to spin a decent sized shawl with. Hopefully I can keep the gradient in it when it is plied.

Nothing major planned for the weekend, off out after work tonight to meet friends and then the weekend is all mine.I have set no agenda and will just see how it flows.

Happy weekend everyone.

Winter Jasmine.

100g of gorgeous merino and silk all spun up.
This is my most even spin yet and one of the finer weights, it's a sock weight. Need to work out yardage but definitely a good amount. It's gloriously soft and I love the colour. My spinning mojo is most definitely back!

Settling.

I am now into week 6 of the new job and finally things are starting to make sense.
I have a clearer idea of where the job will be going and what I need to do to get there. I am feeling more confident that I made the right choice to swap jobs. As a bonus I managed to buy an extra 5 days leave from the staffs benefit system which makes me very happy.

Talking of holidays, we've now paid off the Florida trip and are counting down the days. From being sceptical about the trip I am now really excited. I am addicted to watching you tube videos and am overflowing with ideas of where to go and what to do when we get there, needs to be a mix between the parks and general touristy stuff. Anyone who has been there please feel free to make suggestions, I would like to do stuff other than Disney and Universal.

Craft-wise I have  been in a bit of a slump, not really achieved much but have managed to spin up the winter jasmine from spin Jones, aiming to get this plied tomorrow night.

Loving the little nubs in this one.  The fibre had a little gradient to it some have spun it from opposite ends to try and get a non gradient yarn. Does that make sense?

Reading has slowed down as I have been using the car more as have been out and about at meetings.
Not sure what I want to read at the moment, nothing was grabbing me from the bookshelf so went to the Charity shop and grabbed a selection of books during my lunch break.

Might start with the Queen of bloody everything !

I'll leave you with some great artwork

How fab are they? I am a convert to graffiti art and luckily for me my home city has loads !

Cruising the Norwegian Fjords.

To celebrate reaching 60 I decided to tick off one of the bucket list holidays. I am very grateful I have a good job which pays well enough ...
