A little piece of heaven.

Our second trip away in Barry Bongo was fab
Bedruthan steps campsite is a must for anyone who likes wild type camping
its a huge field with 2 toilets and 2 showers
and that's it, bloody brilliant !

We arrived Thursday night about 7pm ish
traffic on the way down was great, we took the scenic route to avoid the boardmasters traffic
a trouble free journey, arrived relaxed and was met with the most amazing views I have ever had in a campsite

this was my first nights view!

After setting up we just sat and watched the beautiful sun set and star gazed, we spotted the space station and a few satellites, being a towny its a joy to be able to see the night sky, we even spotted the milky way! I could feel myself relax, I didn't feel the need to do anything, even junior seemed happy!

We were greeted by sun the next day and the morning views

Our friend arrived to join us, after she set up camp we set out to explore, we had promised junior we would take him to a cafe for cake, as jules is a local she knows the area well and knows how to dodge the tourists!

we headed down to St Mawgan village

to walk the path down to Mawgan Porth, there just happened to be a little cafe tucked away, halfway along the path, happy junior!

Before we headed out of the village Jules wanted to take a look at the Japanese gardens

a beautiful tranquil place.

Then it was off and out to the beach!

Its a gentle walk, nothing too taxing and luckily for junior the cafe marked the halfway point

tucked way at the top of the hill, but what a find, great food.

Mawgan Porth was busy but the beach not too packed which for a sunny day in August was a treat, we even managed to find a bench to sit on

we hadn't planned on a beach day so stayed for just a while and admired the view
partook of a beverage in the local before we turned tail and headed back

Back at camp it was BBQ time

and more sunset watching

a relaxed night spent star gazing was had followed by a very good nights sleep.

Saturday was beach day, the plan had been to walk down Bedruthan steps and have a picnic on the beach,

unfortunately we had omitted to check to check the tide times

high tide was at mid day !

sadly we were not able to walk down
instead we admired the views and had a rethink

a quick walk back to the campsite, picked up the car and headed out to one of jules childhood holiday places, totally forgetting it was a hot August day

Treyarnon beach was my idea of hell

packed was an understatement and everyone had staked a claim on their little piece of beach, I cant believe people set up camp like this, we managed to find a quieter place in the dunes and sat for a few hours, junior and I paddled, we ate chips on the beach and of course had an ice cream, then we were done, enough !

Back up to site, an hours RnR then off out for a meal, just a short walk up the road.

we were luckily enough to have an inside table with this view, after having eaten we sat outside on this bench, and you guessed it, watched the sun set!

Once we had had our fill we decided to walk the long way home along the coastal path to enjoy the remains of the sun set

campsite view from the path

we could see the clouds starting to mass, an ominous sign !

Saturday night was a bit wild, rain and wind, but Barry Bongo kept us snug, we woke to a dismal damp morning, choosing to pack up and stop en-route home for a brunch, anticipating traffic jams as the boardmasters crowd headed homeward.

we said farewell to our friend and stopped at Bodmin for brunch before hitting the motorway, the traffic was actually better than expected and we arrived home to no 1 son and mad hound at a reasonable time.

I loved my mini break, Bedruthan is one of my favorite places, I love the rugged coast and its natural unspoiled beauty, we will definitely be going back to camp next year. The campsite is only open for 6 weeks every year and even at peak tourist season it was still uncrowded and quiet.I feel relaxed and rested.

The added bonus was that whilst no 1 son enjoyed being home alone he missed us and now wants to come on our next trip at the end of the month! Just need to rethink how to fit another adult into the van to sleep!
